Hot chocolate is cozy on its own, but there are ways to make it even “cozier.” For instance, have you ever thought of adding a splash of alcohol to this warm beverage? Yes, there is such a thing as spiked hot chocolate—and it’s warming a lot of tummies this holiday season!

To make this comforting drink even comfier, we’ve added a dropperful of our high-quality Tribe CBD oil. Just a dab of CBD oil is enough to make even the greenest Grinch giggle.

CBD Spiked Hot Chocolate Recipe

Today, we’re more prone to think of hot chocolate as an offshoot of chocolate bars. However, had it not been for hot chocolate, there would be no such thing as chocolate candies.

If you want to get technical, “cold chocolate” was the precursor to the modern chocolate industry. According to the oldest reports of the Ancient Mayans, nobles would mix cocoa beans with ingredients like hot chili peppers and cornmeal to produce a thick and cold “chocolate drink.”

After the Spanish brought cocoa back to Europe, chocolate finally began to “heat up.” In addition to changing the temperature of their chocolate drinks, Spaniards added sweeteners like sugar rather than spicy ingredients.

Interestingly, it wasn’t until the mid-1800s that chocolate bars as we know them first appeared in the UK. While chocolate candies are far more prevalent than hot chocolate, it’s worth remembering chocolate drinks are the “authentic” way to enjoy this bean.

Ingredients

  • ~ 2 tsps cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp cane sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ oz your preferred spirit (e.g., peppermint schnapps, vodka, or Kahlúa)
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • Candy cane or cinnamon stick, optional

Directions

  • Pour cocoa powder and cane sugar in a serving mug.
  • Heat milk till just simmering on the stovetop or in the microwave.
  • Gently stir hot milk into the cocoa powder.
  • Add vanilla extract, Tribe CBD oil, and alcohol.
  • Garnish with a cinnamon stick or candy cane, if desired.

As you’ll notice, we didn’t specify which spirit to add to this spiked hot chocolate. There are just too many options you could choose that would make this drink taste spectacular!

On all of our CBD cocktail guides, we encourage you to make these drinks suit your preferences. For instance, if you’re a fan of creamy nightcap cocktails, you’ll probably do better with liqueurs like Baileys Irish cream. People who want their drink to be extra festive may wish to experiment with mint-flavored liqueurs like peppermint schnapps.

If you’re making spiked hot chocolate for a crowd, be sure to have a few spirits on stand-by. Whether people like vodka, rum, or a specialty drink, you can ensure everyone has their preferred flavors.
